Getting started with Trezor Suite®

Welcome to your secure gateway for crypto management. Trezor Suite is the official companion app for your Trezor hardware device — manage accounts, send and receive coins, verify transactions offline, and keep your recovery seed safe. This guide walks you through initial setup, everyday use, and essential security practices.

1. Unbox & Inspect

When you receive your Trezor device, check the packaging seal and verify the holographic tamper-evidence strip (if present). Only use hardware that appears untampered and matches official purchase sources.

2. Install Trezor Suite

Download Trezor Suite for your platform (Windows, macOS, Linux) from the Official Site®. Install and open the app. Trezor Suite will guide you through connecting your device and creating a new wallet.

3. Initialize Your Device

Create a new device or restore from an existing recovery seed. Record your recovery seed exactly as shown — never store it digitally or share it with anyone.

4. Verify Firmware

Always update and verify firmware via the Suite. Firmware verification prevents malicious tampering and ensures your device behaves as expected.

What Trezor Suite gives you

Secure key storage

Private keys remain inside your device. Suite acts as an interface; signature and confirmation occur on the hardware, never in the host OS.

Multi-coin support

Manage BTC, ETH, ERC-20 tokens, and many other supported coins through native integrations and token lists.

Transaction verification

Fully verify destination addresses and amounts on the device screen before approving — stop malware-driven address substitution.

Account management

Create multiple accounts, label them, and review transaction history with easy filters.

Portfolio & analytics

See balances, performance over time, and exported statements for accounting.

Privacy options

Use coin control features, connect via privacy-preserving backends, and avoid unnecessary address reuse.

Security first — essential practices

Your safety depends on conservative practices. Always record your recovery seed on paper (or steel backup) and keep it separated from your devices. Never type the seed into a computer or phone. Use a strong PIN on your device, and enable passphrase protection if you understand how it works — a passphrase enhances privacy but must be handled carefully because losing it means losing access to funds.

Detailed setup — step by step

Step 1 — Download & verify

Download Trezor Suite only from the Official Site®. Check the URL carefully and verify digital signatures when available. After installing, open Suite and choose “Initialize new device” (or restore if you have an existing seed).

Step 2 — Connect device & install firmware

Connect your Trezor via USB. Suite will prompt to install (or update) firmware. Follow on-screen instructions and confirm actions on the device display. Firmware updates are signed by the manufacturer and are necessary for security improvements.

Step 3 — Create PIN & recovery seed

Choose a device PIN that protects against local attacks. Next the device will generate a recovery seed — write it down, double-check each word, and keep the sheet offline. Consider a steel backup for disaster resistance.

Step 4 — Add accounts

Once the device is set up, add cryptocurrency accounts from Suite. You can import existing accounts from public addresses or create fresh ones. Label accounts clearly (e.g., “Savings — BTC”, “Trading — ETH”) to reduce mistakes.

Step 5 — Send & receive

Receive: share the address from Trezor Suite; verify it on-device. Send: compose transaction in Suite, then confirm details on the device before signing. Use fee advice and coin control for cost optimization and privacy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I restore my wallet on another Trezor?

Yes. Use the recovery seed to restore on a compatible Trezor device. Ensure the recipient device’s firmware is authentic and updated before restoring.

What if I lose my Trezor?

If you lose the physical device, you can restore funds using your recovery seed on a new Trezor (or compatible wallet). If someone obtains both your seed and your passphrase (if used), your funds can be compromised—protect these credentials.

Is Trezor Suite open source?

Trezor Suite and device firmware components have open-source elements. Refer to official repositories for exact licensing and code references.

Do I need an internet connection?

Trezor Suite requires internet access for price data, blockchain queries, and firmware updates. The private keys remain offline on the device — networked actions only transmit signed transactions to the network.
